What does an immersion sensor allow?
An immersion sensor is classified as a temperature sensor and uses a special connection head to ensure that temperatures in liquids, gases or bulk materials can be measured without any problems. In contrast to contact sensors, which measure temperatures from the outside, immersion sensors are designed so that they can be inserted and mounted completely inside a container, pipe or other environment. The aforementioned connection head or robust housing is characteristic of immersion sensors and duct sensors so that they can withstand any liquid or gaseous media.
How does an immersion sensor work?
To measure the temperature, an immersion sensor is inserted directly into the medium. The installed sensor elements react to changes in temperature. In most cases, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors or semiconductor sensors are used for this purpose. As soon as the temperature changes, the sensors react by a measurable change in a physical property, e.g. the electrical resistance or the voltage generated. Once the temperature changes have been recorded, any signal is converted into an electrical signal and transmitted to an evaluation unit. Depending on the type of immersion sensor, these are either analog or digital. The signal transmitted by the immersion sensor is then analyzed by the evaluation unit, which converts the value into a temperature that you can now read on the display.
Important: In order for an immersion sensor to provide accurate results, you should always ensure that it is installed correctly. We recommend the use of thermowells in conjunction with a heat-conducting paste. This ensures effective heat transfer between the medium and the immersion sensor.

Active immersion sensors with analog signal
Active immersion sensors are available with various analog outputs and enable direct and seamless communication with control and monitoring systems. Through their analogue signals - typically standardized as 4-20 mA or 0-10 V - they provide a continuous signal that is proportional to the measured temperature. The advantage of 4-20 mA signals is their low susceptibility to interference over long distances, which is why they are preferred in industrial applications, while immersion sensors with 0-10 V signals are often used in building automation systems.
Immersion sensors in the form of resistance thermometers
For applications that require particularly high measurement accuracy, our resistance thermometers are an excellent choice. These sensors utilize the linear relationship between temperature and electrical resistance of selected materials such as platinum. PT100 sensors, which have a resistance of 100 ohms at 0 °C, and PT1000 sensors, with 1000 ohms at 0 °C, belong to this category and are extremely popular due to their precision and stability. They can be used in two-, three- or four-wire circuits, with three- and four-wire technology further increasing accuracy by compensating for lead resistance.
Digital outputs and BUS-compatible immersion sensors
In addition to analog outputs, our range also includes immersion sensors with digital output signals, e.g. via Modbus. In addition to pure temperature transmission, these offer further functionalities such as device diagnostics and configuration via remote access.
